In the world of luxury watches, individuality is key. Your watch isn’t just a tool for telling time; it’s an expression of your personality, your lifestyle, and your values. Recognizing this, IWC Schaffhausen has unveiled a new individualization service for the iconic Portugieser Chronograph - now available at their boutique in Zurich. This service allows you to take the reins and design a watch that’s as unique as you are.

IWC Individualization Service
When you step into the IWC Schaffhausen boutique on Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich, you’re greeted by an interactive console that opens up a world of possibilities. Here, you can explore and experiment with various combinations of materials and colors, creating a watch that’s truly your own.
Start by choosing your preferred case material - whether it’s the timeless elegance of stainless steel or the luxurious warmth of 18-carat 5N gold. Then, select from many exclusive dial colors, each crafted specifically for this service. The palette is both vibrant and sophisticated, featuring shades like turquoise, indigo, aubergine, and ginger. You can further enhance your dial with either rhodium-plated or gold-plated appliques and hands, adding an extra layer of refinement to your personalized timepiece.

Customization Meets Craftsmanship
What sets this service apart is the ability to mix and match dial plaques with cases using a magnetic attachment system. This flexibility allows you to try out different combinations until you find the one that perfectly aligns with your vision. Once you’ve settled on your ideal dial, it’s time to choose a strap that complements your design. Options range from colorful calfskin or alligator leather to innovative alternatives like TimberTex® and rubber straps, or even a sleek stainless-steel bracelet. The variety ensures that your watch not only looks stunning but also feels perfect on your wrist.

Precision and Exclusivity
At IWC, attention to detail is paramount, and this personalization service is no exception. Each Portugieser Chronograph is crafted with the brand’s renowned precision and care, ensuring that your custom creation is of the highest quality. Once complete, your watch will be a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, marked by a small "I" in a circle on the small seconds sub-counter at 6 o’clock—a subtle detail signifying the exclusivity of your personalized timepiece.

An IWC Watch That Reflects You
Whether you prefer a watch that exudes classic elegance or one that makes a bold statement, IWC’s new individualization service offers endless possibilities. We love that this service not only allows you to design a watch that reflects your style but also lets you create something that’s entirely unique to you.

Stepping into the heart of a watch company's manufacture is akin to peering behind the curtain of a grand theater production. It's here that the true essence of craftsmanship, quality, and innovation is unveiled. Recently, we had the privilege of embarking on a tour of IWC's state-of-the-art Manufakturzentrum, and what we witnessed was nothing short of extraordinary.

A Legacy of Industrial Vision
In 1868, Florentine Ariosto Jones, a visionary from Boston, set out on a journey to Switzerland with a radical idea: fuse modern American production methods with Swiss watchmaking expertise. This visionary spirit laid the foundation for the birth of the International Watch Company (IWC) in Schaffhausen. Nestled beside the Rhine, Jones established a manufacture capable of churning out an impressive 10,000 watches annually.

Fast forward to the present day, and IWC's industrial tradition initiated by Jones reaches new heights with the inauguration of the Manufakturzentrum, perfectly timed to coincide with the brand's 150th anniversary. Erected in a remarkable 21 months, this cutting-edge facility unites the production of movement components, complete movements, and cases under a single, technologically advanced roof. Casing up and final testing, however, remain reverently within the confines of the historic building. Notably, Christoph Grainger-Herr, IWC's CEO and an accomplished architect, lent his expertise to the design, ensuring a seamless blend of luxury and precision engineering.

The IWC Manufakturzentrum: A Testament to Tradition
From the moment one approaches the 139-meter-long, 62-meter-wide structure, the Manufakturzentrum exudes an air of modernity and aesthetic allure. The monumental 2,200-square-meter glass façade captivates the eye, complemented by a soaring 9-meter-high entrance lobby, where a colossal perpetual calendar mechanism presides over the reception area. As a tribute to the luminaries who shaped IWC's legacy, portraits of key figures adorn one of the walls.

As visitors, we are immediately immersed in a world of fervent activity. Devoted craftsmen, each equipped with a magnifying glass and surrounded by cutting-edge CNC machines, pour over their workstations with meticulous care. The importance of natural light permeates the entire space, enhancing the production environment with optimal conditions. Everything is finely tuned for functionality, as the production flow unfolds seamlessly before your eyes.

A pivotal area within the Manufakturzentrum is devoted to the birth of movements. From raw materials to meticulously crafted components, the process advances with surgical precision. Digitally controlled machines sculpt the parts, which are then adorned and electroplated. Precious jewels find their homes in plates and bridges, creating the intricate inner workings of each timepiece.

The Art of Case Making
Descending into the basement, a realm of case manufacturing reveals itself. IWC's mastery of materials is on full display, with stainless steel, titanium, platinum, gold, and bronze cases all being produced in-house. Also showcased is Ceratanium, an innovative material that marries the strength of titanium with the hardness of ceramic. The expertise and attention devoted to hand-finishing the cases is nothing short of remarkable. Each surface and angle undergoes patient refinement with a polishing wheel, culminating in a level of craftsmanship rarely seen in case production departments.

A Testament to Quality and Commitment
The new IWC Manufakturzentrum is a testament to the brand's unwavering commitment to quality and innovation. It represents a significant step forward in IWC's evolution, providing a purpose-built infrastructure to accommodate the company's expansion. With room for 400 craftsmen, the Manufakturzentrum stands as a beacon of pride for every employee, underscoring that an IWC timepiece is more than a mere instrument for telling time—it's a masterpiece of precision and legacy.

Did you know that there have only been 5 iterations of the iconic Range Rover since its initial launch over 50 years ago? Naturally, every new release gets car enthusiasts excited. We were lucky enough to test the category defining luxury SUV on Switzerland's winding roads. Join us for an unforgettable road trip with the new Range Rover!

The New Range Rover is all about distinguished Design
Range Rover has always represented the pinnacle of progressive luxury. In its latest iterations, proportions are defined by aesthetic grace, sophistication and refinement. We love the reductive nature of the design that is free from superfluous detail. But is it the most desirable Range Rover ever created?

One thing is for sure, the modern interpretation of the iconic Range Rover profile still provides a recognizable silhouette. Wherever you are on the planet, the world will know what you’re driving. But that's now all. Flush elements have been added, clean expansive surfaces can be admired and hidden-until-lit tail lamps ignite a spark of excitement in us.
The new Range Rover also features a modern and sophisticated interior, underpinned by tactile materials and an intuitive approach to relevant technology. A choice of Standard or Long Wheelbase body designs provides elevated luxury for five or even seven adults.

Enjoy Refinement and Luxury
Range Rover makes every journey an occasion, combining contemporary luxury with peerless refinement. This can be experienced when approaching the Range Rover and the flush deployable door handles engage. Or when closing the doors. They are now "Intelligent Power Assisted". Details like this soft door close feature set the tone for an unmatched traveling experience.

Another example is the new Meridian™ Signature Surround Sound System. It features next-generation Active Noise Cancellation, delivered via world-first headrest speakers to create quiet zones. This innovative system helps creating a peaceful haven from the outside world.
A very clever new feature is the Range Rover’s Cabin Air Purification Pro system. The nanoe™ X technology significantly reduces odors, bacteria, allergens and pathogens. The CO 2 management also enhances wellness and alertness, monitoring levels inside the cabin and automatically refreshing the air when needed.

The new Range Rover is equipped with intuitive Technology
A much needed update is delivered in terms of technology and infotainment. Now, seamlessly integrated connectivity and convenience are available at every turn. The Advanced Pivi Pro infotainment is always on, always connected, and always up to date. We love to control the vehicle through the curved, floating 13,1" Touchscreen. Haptic controls now provide new levels of visual sophistication and tactility. There's also a new high-resolution 13,7" Interactive Driver Display which offers configurable layouts and important information at a glance.

Experience heightened Performance
Besides featuring the company's most advanced powertrains, sophisticated driving technologies further add to the unparalleled performance of the car. Improved handling is combined with a smoother ride through features including Adaptive Dynamics and Electronic Air Suspension with Dynamic Response Pro.
Currently, there are several models of the new Range Rover available. Among them are Plug-in Hybrid in 440PS and 510PS versions or you can opt for the 530PS, 4.4-litre V8 model. The latter produces maximum torque of incredible 750Nm.

Rely on exceptional Capability
On our road trip from the urban environment of Zurich to the scenic but demanding roads of the Swiss Alps we get to test the new Range Rover's unique skill set. Suitable for a rather large vehicle, all wheel steering is fitted as standard. It delivers an even more refined drive, with high-speed stability and enhanced low-speed agility. It makes a turning circle kerb-to-kerb of under 11 metres possible. Electronic Air Suspension with Dynamic Response Pro 2 includes pre-emptive technology for a smoother drive through corners. Terrain Response 2 automatically adapts the vehicle’s system to any surface or conditions. Very useful in Switzerland's fast changing terrain.

Overall, the new Range Rover delivers modern British luxury at its best. While a Range Rover always was a great all-rounder, it is now also a true luxury vehicle. We love how it blends traditional craftsmanship and engineering brilliance with the very latest technology. The latter makes driving the car truly enjoyable!

An aura of warmth and pleasant fragrance surrounds you when stepping into the IN LAIN Hotel Cadonau. Here, you can throw off the ballast of everyday life and turn to the beauty and purity of alpine nature with all your senses. Are you ready to discover what the smallest 5-star superior hotel in Switzerland has to offer?

Stepping inside the In Lain Hotel Cadonau
"In Lain" is Romanesque and means "in wood". One immediately feels that this noble material determines the character of the hotel. Around the building, centuries-old pines, larches and fir trees nestle gently into the magnificent mountain world. Inside the hotel, a unique world made of local wood opens up - a pure place of strength and inspiration. The perfect setting to experience warm hospitality and wonderful moments all year round.

Dario Cadonau and his wife Tamara are the caring hosts at IN LAIN Hotel Cadonau. You might also see their two children Jan and Xenia around the place. Always with a smile on their faces and ready to help in the kitchen or the garden on the property.

Since opening in 2010, the family earned a lasting reputation. In just a decade, the IN LAIN Hotel Cadonau rose to become the smallest 5-star superior hotel in Switzerland. Dario is an ambitious hotelier and chef and has received numerous high-ranking awards from jurors from the luxury hotel and gastronomy industry. The hotel is currently ranked 14th in the top 20 winter holiday hotels in Switzerland in the 5-star category.
Chef Dario Cadonau
Dario's path to becoming an independent hotelier began with an apprenticeship as a chef at the 5-star Hotel Suvretta House in St. Moritz. After that, he worked at the cooker of many top chefs. Among them 19-point chef Philippe Rochat in Crissier, Bumann's 18-point gourmet restaurant Chesa Pirani in La Punt and finally in Germany with 19-point chef Harald Wohlfahrt from the Traube Tonbach. He then successfully graduated from the Belvoirpark Hotel Management School in Zurich. After graduating, he is returns to his birth place of Brail in the valley of Engadin. Here, the family starts the ambitious project of turning the over 400 year old house, in which his mother grew up, into a 5-star hotel.

Overall, the hotel is home to three restaurants offering different cuisines. But whether in the gourmet restaurant VIVANDA, which boasts a Michelin star and 17 points in GaultMillau, or in the cosy restaurant Stüvetta or in the rustic cheese dairy: Dario Cadonau always wants to bring the best that the local soil, forests, meadows, and waters has to offer on the table.

Garden Gastronomy by Veuve Clicquot
Flooded with light, the gourmet restaurant VIVANDA offers a magnificent view of the national park and the hotel garden. In this setting, guests can enjoy an exclusive surprise and tasting menu, accompanied by a selection of fine and rare wines. The magic begins as soon as you enter: In the vaulted cellar of the traditional building, the cosy lounge now awaits you for the aperitif. It's a romantic ambience by a crackling fireplace. In summer, you can also enjoy the apéro on the restaurant's sunlit terrace. For the next courses, guests head on to the modern area of the hotel and step inside the newly designed gourmet restaurant VIVANDA.

Dario sources all ingredients from local producers, offering a true alpine experience to guests. The team even produces their own traditional Swiss cheese inside the hotel's own dairy. A spectacle not to be missed!

Inside the traditional building, right opposite the open kitchen, is a wine vault. Here, guests can select their own wine to pair with Dario's dishes. Something we definitely recommend doing. Among the many bottles you will also find some bottles of La Grande Dame by Veuve Clicquot. Dario is one of few global ambassadors of this prestigious champagne maison.

For their Garden Gastronomy experience with La Grande Dame, Dario Cadonau created a Signature Dish based on a seasonal ingredient: the carrot. The dish is composed as follow: carrot steak, carrot cream, carrot tops, carrot mousse, carrot ice cream and malt powder. All components of this dish go wonderfully well with the freshness, silkiness, elegance and minerality of La Grande Dame 2012.

Wellness
No matter if you have been hiking, mountain biking, skiing or just eating the whole day, wellness is always a good idea! At the IN LAIN Hotel Cadonau, you will find a wonderful outdoor spa area. A floor-to-ceiling glass garden sauna facing the Inn Gorge is certainly one of the highlights. While relaxing, you can take in a breathtaking mountain panorama.
Next to it, a hot tub offers pure relaxation. It is filled with 38 °C warm pine infused water. It is even heated with local wood. An organic swimming pond in the hotel garden let's you finally cool down. In summer at least. The pond is filled with water from the hotel's own natural spring. Heaven on earth.

We also attended the Rosé Together event by Veuve Clicquot at the IN LAIN Hotel Cadonau. Click here to read more.

Disruption is hard to achieve in the traditional Swiss watchmaking industry. That's exactly why Horage has entered the space. And what they have achieved after 12 years of research and development is remarkable. Let's have a look inside their manufacture in Biel/Bienne and go hands-on with the Horage Supersede. A true all-terrain GMT with an in-house movement, powered by a micro-rotor.

Horage - Made in Bienne
Just like us, Horage is based in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. The town is home to the biggest and best known Swiss watchmakers. Engineering, design, and production happens at their highly industrialized facility. Truly committed to Switzerland as home of mechanical watchmaking, they reach a Swiss Made threshold of 87% to 98% in their watches. This is one of the highest rates in the industry!

When they launched Horage back in 2009, the founders Tzuyu Huang and Andreas Fels knew they needed to bring in some of the best talent if they were to disrupt the watchmaking industry. Consequently, they teamed up with Stefan Kussmaul, a former engineer at Eterna. Three years later, Jonas Nydegger joned and took over the project. Florian Serex also brought a wealth of knowledge to the Horage projects after acting as head of renowned ETA laboratories and CEO of Vaucher Manufacture.
Ever since, Horage has been pushing the boundaries in movement production. They aim to manufacture movements that are more precise and have a higher Swiss Made threshold, while also being more affordable. After achieving a breakthrough with their sturdy in-house Tourbillon 1 movement, available for (only!) around $6'900, they now want to shake up the GMT category. Their goal: manufacturing the most accessible Swiss micro-rotor GMT. The result is Supersede, a thin, all-terrain ready timepiece on an integrated steel bracelet.

Hands-On with the Horage Supersede
First things first: While the market start point for Swiss micro-rotors with three hands is around $7'500, Supersede will have a final retail for around $6'500. A true all-terrain GMT, the timepiece comes on an integrated steel bracelet and in-house movement. And their K2 micro-rotor movement is thin. With its dimensions of 3.6mm x 30mm it achieves +72 hours of power reserve. Equipped with silicon spring & escapement, the movement is hand finished with Côtes de Genève and quadratic black gold bridge decorations.
Overall, the watch is 98% Swiss Made. A threshold almost unheard of at this price point. Especially considering that the timepiece is powered by an in-house movement.

Supersede - A Day on the Wrist
What we love about the Supersede is its dimension. Its dial has a diameter of 39.5mm and a thickness of 9.85mm. At a lug to lug distance of 46.29mm, the watch sits perfectly on the wrist. Especially considering its beautifully executed integrated bracelet with 3-point micro-adjustment buckle.

Besides Boreal Green, the watch also comes in the colors White, Transatlantic Blue, and Atoll Blue. While all are coming on the high quality 904L steel bracelet, rubber straps in different colors will also be available soon.
For us, the Horage Supersede is the perfect daily watch. The steel sports watch aesthetics match both a suit and t-shirt & jeans. While the GMT and big date indication make the watch a useful tool, the true beauty of the timepiece ticks inside. The K2 micro-rotor movement is another breakthrough for the young team that is revolutionizing the watchmaking industry from within their manufacture in Biel/Bienne.
