There are moments when the mountains offer more than just a view, they offer perspective. That was the case on a recent trip to Zermatt, where a beautiful summer morning set the tone for a slow ascent to Paradise. It's one of the area’s most beloved mountain restaurants. Tucked away at 2,230 metres above sea level, with sweeping views of the Matterhorn, it’s a place where time slows down and where the right timepiece becomes part of the moment. On this occasion, that timepiece was the OMEGA Seamaster Railmaster.

OMEGA Seamaster Railmaster Paradise Zermatt Artworth

Exploring the Alps with the Railmaster

Originally designed in 1957 for professionals working in magnetic environments, such as railway staff and engineers, the Railmaster has always blended function with clean, utilitarian style. Its 2024 reinterpretation retains the essential DNA: a symmetrical 38 mm case in brushed and polished steel, vintage Super-LumiNova numerals on a beige-to-black gradient dial, and a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. The watch feels like it belongs in the mountains: practical, low-key, and capable of thriving in extreme conditions.

Its Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8804 movement is anti-magnetic up to 15,000 gauss, meaning it can shrug off anything from airport security to alpine cable car systems. A sapphire crystal caseback reveals the movement in action. Mechanical beauty that echoes the elegance of the Alps themselves.

Paradise Zermatt Artworth

A Restaurant that lives up to its Name

Arriving at Paradise, perched high above Zermatt with a direct line of sight to the Matterhorn, we were greeted with that unmistakable blend of alpine clarity and culinary anticipation. The atmosphere? Relaxed but elevated. Think polished wooden beams, faux fur throws, and waiters who know your wine preferences before you do.

The menu is a delightful fusion of local tradition and global flair. Each dish arrived with a view. Plates framed by panoramic windows and cloud-kissed peaks. Wearing the Railmaster here felt fitting. A nod to OMEGA’s precision and legacy, it quietly complemented the restaurant’s aesthetic: elegant, but never flashy. Purposeful, yet refined.

An unexpected Encounter in Town

Back down in Zermatt, a stop at the OMEGA Boutique revealed another treasure: the Speedmaster “First OMEGA in Space”, a modern homage to astronaut Walter Schirra’s personal Speedmaster CK 2998. With its grey-blue dial, Dot Over Ninety bezel, and vintage leather strap, it was a reminder that while the Railmaster thrives on earth, the Speedmaster was built for the stars.

Equipped with the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 and vintage detailing, it bridges the past and the present. Just like Zermatt itself, where cutting-edge hospitality and storied alpine tradition coexist effortlessly. Whether it’s a Railmaster made for the tracks or a Moonwatch made for the stars, OMEGA proves that great design doesn’t age, it adapts.

At 2,230 metres in Zermatt, with a glass of Champagne in hand and the Railmaster catching the mountain light, the moment felt timeless. Because sometimes, all you need is a good watch, good food, and a view that reminds you how small and how lucky you are.

There are few places in the world where time seems to slow with grace. Zermatt is one of them. Tucked beneath the mighty silhouette of the Matterhorn, this Alpine gem is where tradition, tranquillity, and refinement intertwine. At its heart lies the legendary Mont Cervin Palace, a hotel that has welcomed travelers since 1857 and continues to embody the very essence of hospitality.

The Spirit of Zermatt, Refined

Part of the prestigious Michel Reybier Hospitality collection, the Mont Cervin Palace is far more than a luxury hotel, it is a cornerstone of Zermatt’s cultural and social life. From the car-free serenity of the village to the postcard-perfect vistas of snow-capped peaks, this is a destination where nature and noble living coexist effortlessly.

Located just steps from the romantic cobblestone lanes of Zermatt’s old town, the Mont Cervin Palace feels both grand and grounded. The iconic red horse-drawn carriage that picks you up at the station? That’s not a novelty. It’s tradition. And that’s what this place does best: heritage, with style.

Where Comfort Meets Character: The Pollux Suite

For the modern gentleman seeking privacy and panoramic beauty, the Pollux Suite offers both in abundance. With its south-facing balcony, the Matterhorn fills your window like a painting in motion. Inside, Alpine elegance reigns: a master bedroom with Jacuzzi and rain shower, a lounge with an open fireplace, and a dining area perfect for room service or a quiet whisky after sunset.

The space is expansive but never overwhelming. Just perfectly balanced between refined luxury and mountain warmth.

Culinary Discoveries

At Mont Cervin Palace, fine dining is not just part of the experience, it’s the cornerstone of it.

1818 Eat & Drink brings the bold flavors of South America to the Alps. Think Argentine beef grilled over the Josper flame, Peruvian spices, and Andean charm. All set against a sophisticated backdrop worthy of its 13 Gault Millau points. A culinary passport for the well-traveled palate.

For an elegant change of pace, Myoko offers a front-row seat to the art of Japanese cuisine. Whether it’s sashimi crafted before your eyes or Wagyu seared on the teppanyaki grill, every bite is an homage to precision and purity.

And for those late-night conversations and smoky reflections, Salon Davidoff awaits. Leather armchairs, Cuban cigars, a crackling fire. I’s a setting where time slows and taste deepens.

Unwind, Recenter, Recharge

At Spa Nescens, wellness takes on an Alpine dimension. Swim from indoors to outdoors in the mountain air, the Matterhorn casting its shadow across the still water. Then, choose from tailored Nescens treatments, saunas, or simply rest in the relaxation room, where the mountain light does more than illuminate, it heals.

This is not a spa for show. It’s a sanctuary for those who understand that looking after the body and mind is a quiet art.

Experiences to Remember

From scenic helicopter flights around the Matterhorn to glacier hikes, or simply strolling through alpine meadows, Zermatt invites you to live slowly but deeply. The team at Mont Cervin Palace is expert at crafting bespoke moments, whether it’s a sunrise summit tour or a sunset apéro on a mountain ridge.

To stay at Mont Cervin Palace is to partake in over 160 years of Alpine hospitality. It is a place where elegance is not performed but lived. Where the Matterhorn stands as a daily reminder that some things, like good taste and grand hotels, never go out of style.

High above the picturesque mountain village of Zermatt, the small 5-star hotel THE OMNIA offers a unique experience to guests looking for the extraordinary. Welcome inside the unparalleled world of the Mountain Lodge!

Guest Experience

Beautifully located "on the rock" in the center of Zermatt, THE OMNIA towers above the town and offers stunning views of the iconic Matterhorn. Here, a unique combination of visionary architecture and clean interior design awaits guests. As a mountain lodge, the 5-star hotel only offers 30 rooms, 12 of which are suites. The rather small size of the hotel makes way for a guest experience which might be second to none. Most staff are from Switzerland and embody the country's high reputation for excellent hospitality. Individual guest wishes are responded to with personal service. All this in a refreshingly informal yet welcoming and professional way. Here, guests truly feel at ease, able to simply enjoy the unforgettable moments awaiting one in Zermatt.

As for our 2 night stay, we arrive on a snowy day in Zermatt. The hotel's own electric vehicle takes us and our luggage directly to THE OMNIA. The hotel is entered in perfect 007 fashion through a tunnel suddenly appearing in the middle of the town. We get greeted and served Swiss sparkling wine as we settle down in the lobby's library. Here, we can admire the contemporary interpretation of the traditional mountain lodge for the first time. The quintessentially American concept, has been reinvented here by the New York based architect Ali Tayar.

Marvelous Rooms and Suites

The beautifully appointed rooms and suites feature warm materials, carefully selected photographs and Aesop skincare products. Offering unrivaled views of the Matterhorn and the rooftops of the village, the rooms are among the most beautiful in Zermatt.

The rooms are furnished with many incredible pieces by USM. The Swiss brand is known for its simplistic, functional and reliable furniture. It compliments the intriguing design of the rooms perfectly. The generously furnished suites make for a great place for breakfast. Before going to bed, we order delicious pastry, french toast and egg benedict and get all these delicacies served right on time in the morning. What a start into a new day!

In every room, a complimentary bourbon is awaiting guests in a beautiful decanter. A very nice touch we appreciate a lot - especially since we are whisky enthusiasts!

Culinary Highlights

Those who like to enjoy an apéro before dinner will love the terrace at THE OMNIA. It offers beautiful views over the picturesque town of Zermatt and up to majestic Matterhorn. After a walk in the afternoon, it is here where we settle down and share a bottle of champagne, while taking in all these incredible impressions.

Later, we head over to the restaurant. Upon arrival, we get invited to settle down on a couch at the fireplace. Here, we have a look at the menu and have a chat with the restaurant manager about tonight's specials. This informal yet professional interaction with the staff is something we truly value and enjoy here at THE OMNIA.

The maison's Executive Chef Hauke Pohl is a master of his art: the art of setting the perfect stage for the synergies of different tastes and thus for the authenticity of local Alpine and seasonal quality products. His style is pure, uncomplicated, modern - often with a twist and flavorful nuances of faraway places. Their newly introduced culinary philosophy proves to be successful, because Executive Chef Hauke Pohl was rewarded with 16 Gault&Millau points. At THE OMNIARegional and local quality products are at the center of a philosophy which pays great tribute to Alpine excellence.

Spa with Matterhorn Views

Wellness is an essential part of holidays in the Alps. Naturally, THE OMNIA offers its guests unique spa facilities. Like most places in the mountain lodge, the spa is a place where people meet and interact in a family-like way. Guests settle down in the loungers around the magnificent pool and enjoy pure relaxation in the steam room and sauna. A special highlight awaits us outside. The large whirlpool, filled with steaming hot water, offers unique views of the Matterhorn. Can there even be a better way to relax?

So, is THE OMNIA the best small 5-star hotel? Well, it has won the title of "Switzerland's Leading Boutique Hotel" at the World Travel Awards Europe this year - for the 4th time in a row! However, we really want to leave it up to your own judgement and hence recommend you to book your stay at THE OMNIA soon!
