Stepping into the heart of a watch company's manufacture is akin to peering behind the curtain of a grand theater production. It's here that the true essence of craftsmanship, quality, and innovation is unveiled. Recently, we had the privilege of embarking on a tour of IWC's state-of-the-art Manufakturzentrum, and what we witnessed was nothing short of extraordinary.

IWC Manufakturzentrum Artworth

A Legacy of Industrial Vision

In 1868, Florentine Ariosto Jones, a visionary from Boston, set out on a journey to Switzerland with a radical idea: fuse modern American production methods with Swiss watchmaking expertise. This visionary spirit laid the foundation for the birth of the International Watch Company (IWC) in Schaffhausen. Nestled beside the Rhine, Jones established a manufacture capable of churning out an impressive 10,000 watches annually.

Fast forward to the present day, and IWC's industrial tradition initiated by Jones reaches new heights with the inauguration of the Manufakturzentrum, perfectly timed to coincide with the brand's 150th anniversary. Erected in a remarkable 21 months, this cutting-edge facility unites the production of movement components, complete movements, and cases under a single, technologically advanced roof. Casing up and final testing, however, remain reverently within the confines of the historic building. Notably, Christoph Grainger-Herr, IWC's CEO and an accomplished architect, lent his expertise to the design, ensuring a seamless blend of luxury and precision engineering.

The IWC Manufakturzentrum: A Testament to Tradition

From the moment one approaches the 139-meter-long, 62-meter-wide structure, the Manufakturzentrum exudes an air of modernity and aesthetic allure. The monumental 2,200-square-meter glass façade captivates the eye, complemented by a soaring 9-meter-high entrance lobby, where a colossal perpetual calendar mechanism presides over the reception area. As a tribute to the luminaries who shaped IWC's legacy, portraits of key figures adorn one of the walls.

As visitors, we are immediately immersed in a world of fervent activity. Devoted craftsmen, each equipped with a magnifying glass and surrounded by cutting-edge CNC machines, pour over their workstations with meticulous care. The importance of natural light permeates the entire space, enhancing the production environment with optimal conditions. Everything is finely tuned for functionality, as the production flow unfolds seamlessly before your eyes.

IWC Manufakturzentrum Artworth

A pivotal area within the Manufakturzentrum is devoted to the birth of movements. From raw materials to meticulously crafted components, the process advances with surgical precision. Digitally controlled machines sculpt the parts, which are then adorned and electroplated. Precious jewels find their homes in plates and bridges, creating the intricate inner workings of each timepiece.

The Art of Case Making

Descending into the basement, a realm of case manufacturing reveals itself. IWC's mastery of materials is on full display, with stainless steel, titanium, platinum, gold, and bronze cases all being produced in-house. Also showcased is Ceratanium, an innovative material that marries the strength of titanium with the hardness of ceramic. The expertise and attention devoted to hand-finishing the cases is nothing short of remarkable. Each surface and angle undergoes patient refinement with a polishing wheel, culminating in a level of craftsmanship rarely seen in case production departments.

A Testament to Quality and Commitment

The new IWC Manufakturzentrum is a testament to the brand's unwavering commitment to quality and innovation. It represents a significant step forward in IWC's evolution, providing a purpose-built infrastructure to accommodate the company's expansion. With room for 400 craftsmen, the Manufakturzentrum stands as a beacon of pride for every employee, underscoring that an IWC timepiece is more than a mere instrument for telling time—it's a masterpiece of precision and legacy.

When it comes to wristwatches, few brands capture the essence of precision, style, and adventure like Horage. Their all-terrain timepiece, the Supersede GMT, left the watch community spellbound. Now, with valuable input from their passionate tribe of enthusiasts, Horage is back with a timepiece that not only delivers refined functionality but also adds a fresh summer look to your wrist. Enter the Supersede Date, the latest chapter in the All-Terrain Supersede lineage!

Breaking the Mold

Horage's approach to watch design has always been about breaking free from the conventional norms. The Supersede Date is no exception. Stepping outside the box of the classic three-hand and date function, Horage's designers drew inspiration from the success of the Supersede GMT's jump hour set. This unique feature, retained in the Supersede Date, allows wearers to quickly adjust the hour hand to their destination time without interrupting the running seconds and minute hands. It's a function tailored for globe-trotting adventurers and anyone who values precise timekeeping.

Complementing the Jump Hour Set function is the Big Date display at three o'clock, featuring Quick Date Adjust. With a simple counterclockwise turn of the crown, you can swiftly set the date, enhancing the watch's user-friendliness.

Inspired by Deep Waters

The Supersede Date's dial design draws inspiration from the deep, warm waters that beckon explorers. The result is two meticulously finished dials: Cenote Blue and Black Coral. Cenote Blue mirrors the captivating blue sun rays found in the crystal-clear cenotes of the Yucatán Peninsula, while Black Coral takes inspiration from the soft, deep-water corals of the Caribbean, which are transformed into stunning jewelry known as black coral.

The highly polished indices and diamond-cut hands on these dials are filled with Swiss Super-LumiNova® that emit a captivating deep blue glow in subdued light.

Horage also sets the bar high in terms of material quality. The watch is crafted from 904L stainless steel, renowned for its superior resistance to stress, pitting, and corrosion. This makes it the ultimate choice for environments with saltwater exposure. Not only is 904L corrosion-resistant, but the polished and brushed finishes also offer a bright and rich look.

Attention to Detail in Design

The attention to detail in the Supersede Date extends from the case to the bracelet. The bi-directional rotating timing bezel features a mix of highly polished, brushed, and matte textured surfaces, enhancing both beauty and functionality. At a mere 10.28mm thin, the Supersede case showcases meticulous hand finishing from the lugs to the crown guards and crown.

The 904L stainless steel integrated bracelet with a micro-adjustment buckle adds the finishing touch. Tapering from 22mm to 16mm at the buckle, the mix of materials, finishes, and proportions harmonize seamlessly. You even have the option to choose between polished or brushed bracelet center links to customize your Supersede look.

The Heart of Supersede Date: K2 Calibre

Powering the Supersede Date is the Chronometer Certified K2 calibre, an in-house movement developed by Horage. This remarkable movement, at just 3.6mm thick and powered by a single barrel, offers over 72 hours of power reserve. You can adorn it with either a tungsten or platinum rotor, depending on your preference. What sets the K2 calibre apart is Horage's innovative use of advanced materials, including a silicon hairspring, escape wheel, and anchor. This combination increases movement efficiency, isochronism, and makes it non-magnetic—a boon for watch enthusiasts.

As part of the K2 development journey, Horage explored the use of precious metals like gold or platinum. Platinum, due to its density, emerged as the superior choice. The PT950 hallmark ensures you receive a genuine platinum rotor, adding a touch of luxury to your timepiece. You can choose to upgrade to PT950 platinum for an additional CHF 1'200.

Secure your Supersede Date today

For those eager to make the Supersede Date their own, Horage offers a special Early Bird Pre-Order price of CHF 4'900 from 12 September to November 2023. The first 30 orders will ship within 14 days, while the remaining orders will be shipped in November 2023. After this exclusive pre-order period, the stock orders will be available at a price of CHF 5'500.

For us, the Horage Supersede Date is not just a timepiece; it's a statement of adventure, precision, and style. So, don't miss your chance to be among the first to embrace this exceptional watch and embark on your own horological journey with Horage.

Of course, the star of the show remains the Yellow Label Champagne, its silkiness and freshness making it an ideal companion for both aperitifs and indulgent small bites. To add an extra layer of excitement, The Solaire Café introduces the "Solaire Cocktail," a bespoke creation by Dirk Hany, the visionary founder of Bar on the water, an iconic local establishment next door. The cocktail is a harmonious marriage of innovation and tradition, just like the Café itself.

In the world of horology, few brands resonate as profoundly as OMEGA. Among their prestigious line of timepieces, the Seamaster collection stands as a testament to innovation, durability, and iconic style. Let's take a plunge into the rich history and evolution of OMEGA's iconic collection, recently completed with a series of beautiful Seamaster Summer Blue editions.

Omega Seamaster Summer Blue Planet Ocean 600M Artworth

History of the OMEGA Seamaster

The inception of the Seamaster can be traced back to 1948, born out of the essential need for a reliable watch during the tumultuous days of the WWII. OMEGA crafted the initial Seamaster based on a design originally intended for airmen. The inaugural edition came in two variations: one featuring center seconds, and the other with small-seconds positioned at the bottom of the dial. Constructed from stainless steel, the watch featured short, robust lugs and a slender profile, making it a perfect companion for daily wear.

However, the original Seamaster bore little resemblance to its modern counterpart. It lacked the distinctive traits we now associate with a diver's watch. The evolution towards that quintessential diver's aesthetic would occur nine years later with the introduction of the Seamaster 300. This model marked a pivotal moment for OMEGA. It stood as their first professional diver's watch, setting new standards for functionality and design in the industry.

In the realm of pop culture, the Seamaster achieved an elevated status thanks to its appearance on the wrist of the iconic fictional spy, James Bond. Pierce Brosnan, and later Daniel Craig, opted for the Seamaster, bestowing upon it the moniker of "the 007 Watch." This symbiotic relationship bolstered both the watch's popularity and its precision, solidifying its place as a symbol of sophistication and capability.

Today, the Seamaster collection has transcended its origins as a diver's watch. It embodies OMEGA's commitment to innovation and elegance, encapsulating decades of design evolution. From its utilitarian roots to gracing the wrists of iconic characters and global icons, the Seamaster is a paragon of timeless style and technical prowess. In the world of horology, the OMEGA Seamaster collection remains a beacon of excellence-a fusion of heritage, innovation, and enduring style that continues to captivate watch enthusiasts and aficionados alike.

Seamaster Summer Blue Editions

To celebrate 75 years of its oceangoing icon, OMEGA has produced a collection of watches with dials in various layers of Summer Blue. A striking tone reminiscent of a perfect day on a boundless sea. We love how the timepieces are celebrating both the lightness of summer and the theme of water resistance.

The timepieces range in water resistance. Starting with the almost common 150 meters (Aqua Terra) to a professional diving watch offering 6'000 meters of water resistance (Planet Ocean Ultra Deep). All watches share the color Summer Blue, which cleverly reflects the water resistance of the corresponding Seamaster model. This is achieved through the intensity and the layers of lacquer on the dial.

Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer

Now let's have a closer look at one of the watches we are especially fond of: The Aqua Terra 150M GMT Worldtimer. This stunning 43 mm timepiece is a true embodiment of elegance and functionality. The dial of this masterpiece is a canvas of artistry, sun-brushed in OMEGA's exclusive Summer Blue hue. A gradient finish not only adds depth to the dial but also symbolizes the watch's exceptional water resistance. Vertical teak stripes grace the dial, accompanied by rhodium-plated hands and indexes, each coated with a luminous light blue Super-LumiNova for enhanced readability in any lighting. Circling the dial, an exquisite array of silvery printed global destinations reminds us of the world's boundless possibilities. At the heart of the dial lies a 24-hour glass ring, elegantly divided into light blue segments denoting daytime and dark blue segments representing nighttime across the globe. The mesmerizing depiction of Earth, etched with intricate detail, rests on a grade 5 titanium plate through precise laser-ablation.

Inside the watch ticks the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8938, a testament to the brand's relentless pursuit of horological excellence. In essence, the 43 mm Worldtimer transcends beyond being a mere watch; it's a statement of OMEGA's commitment to merging innovation with timeless aesthetics. This masterpiece not only graces your wrist with unparalleled elegance but also offers a practical companion for globetrotters and watch aficionados alike.

The dial, an artistic marvel, features a vertical brushed ceramic texture in OMEGA's signature Summer Blue shade. Tasting Rare Champagne

What better to pair with rare timepieces than exclusive champagne? One name stands out as the epitome of rarity, elegance, and craftsmanship: Rare Champagne. For over four decades, Rare Champagne has been synonymous with exclusivity, offering a select few the opportunity to savor the magnificence of truly exceptional vintages. Each bottle encapsulates a story of passion, expertise, and timeless character, making it a hallmark of sophistication and refined taste. We are extremely proud to be offering Rare Champagne during the Artworth at Bucherer event.

Rare Champagne's history dates back to the 18th century, where the very first prestige cuvée was presented to Marie-Antoinette, Queen of France. Housed in the iconic Pinte Majeure bottle, this champagne embodies aristocratic luxury and elegance. Crafted by skilled glass blowers of the era, the bottle's asymmetrical shoulders pay homage to its historical roots, emphasizing its distinctive personality.

Among Rare Champagne's remarkable vintages, the Rare Millésime 2008 stands as a shining example of excellence. This vintage holds unlimited potential for growth, youth, and complexity, evoking the fervor of an eternal spring. From the intense crystalline golden robe that sparkles like yellow diamonds to the symphony of aromas that gradually unfold, every moment with this champagne is a journey into sensory delight.

As the night progresses, some of the guests switch to a glass of whisky. Local importer and dealer Glen Fahrn curated a special selection of whisky for our guests to enjoy. A special highlight is certainly the Invergordon 33 Duncan Taylor edition. The perfect conclusion of a night all about rare timepieces, champagnes and whiskies.
