For the second year in a row, the watch fair Watches & Wonders Geneva takes place online only. Nevertheless, many brands have embraced this opportunity to present their 2021 novelties. Let us give you an overview of some notable new releases from this year's edition.
One of the fair's highlihghts is Greubel Forsey's uncomparable GMT Sport, which emerges in a bold new character of titanium and blue. More ergonomic and contemporary than ever, this incredibly complicated model is the very first Greubel Forsey timepiece with a completely integrated metal bracelet. With a new bezel and new finishes, it is limited to 33 pieces only.
This year, La Grande Maison celebrates its iconic Reverso by releasing the most complicated timepiece ever presented in this emblematic collection: The Reverso Hybris Mechanica Calibre 185. Six years in the research and development stages, the Euro 1.35 million timepiece is the perfect showcase to display the expertise of the manufacture. The new movement houses 11 different complications and is the most complicated Reverso watch, JLC has ever built. The newest Reverso Quadriptyque is the world’s first wristwatch with four different display faces thanks to a double-faced case and a double-faced cradle. The highly complicated Caliber 185 incorporates a tourbillon escapement, a perpetual calendar, a minute repeater and a complex celestial and astronomical system. The latter offers three lunar displays on the interior face in the cradle, that can predict supermoons and eclipses. It is the first time that these three lunar cycles are presented together on a wristwatch. The complicated Caliber 185 that powers this watch consists of 800 individual components that take about six months to assemble.
To mark 50 years of its chronographs, TUDOR is relaunching its Black Bay Chrono model in steel with a reworked case and two dial options with contrasting sub-counters in the purest tradition of the sports chronograph. Meanwhile, the recognisable characteristics of the Black Bay are preserved in a steel case with a 41mm diameter. Inside ticks the Manufacture Chronograph Calibre MT5813. It displays hour, minute, second, chronograph and date functions. Boasting a 70-hour power reserve and a silicon balance spring, the movement is COSC certified. At CHF 4'950, this might be one of the most attractive chronograph watches out there.
With four new Nautilus models, Patek Philippe presents a new interpretation of casual elegance. Because the year 2021 will be the last production year of the Ref. 5711/1A, this stainless steel model has been endowed with a totally new olive green sunburst dial. The same model will also be available in a version featuring a bezel set with baguette diamonds.
Rolex presents its new-generation Oyster Perpetual Explorer. At 36mm, it returns to the size of the original model launched in 1953 following the first ascent to the summit of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay on 29 May that year. The new-generation Explorer is notably released in a yellow Rolesor version (combining Oyster steel and 18 ct yellow gold). The black dial, now lacquered, bears the index hour markers and emblematic 3, 6, 9 numerals that are the cornerstone of the model's personality, evoking the determination and spirit of adventure that give rise to great achievements.
